| About me: |
At Christmas 2004 I discovered the Hammered Dulcimer! I’ve no idea why but I Googled those two words, discovered this very site, heard Fred Woodley playing ‘Putting on the style’ and was, as they say, ‘hooked’! So I hired an instrument and began to teach myself to play. My first tune was ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star’. I went to the Dulcimer Day in Norfolk in July 2005, this year’s Winter Warmer in York and have been to Launde three times. It’s great to have the opportunity to play with others and to meet new challenges. I struggle to learn things by ear, seem to need the security of having seen it written down initially but I think I would be described as Intermediate. I manage to play most days and have even joined with some of my pupils, who are now getting experiences of some traditional tunes, at a recorder festival. You will realise from that that I teach – 2 days a week in a village primary school, Music and Art. I also lead a group of 6 local primary schools who are giving some of their children extra experiences in the Arts. Apart from Music I enjoy embroidery, gardening, France and running – slowly! Taking over from Sally Whytehead who has organised the Launde weekend so well for quite a while is rather daunting - wish me luck! |
