  1. After 12 years as Chairman, I have stepped down for a well-earned rest and will now just be responsible for organising our 'Winter Warmer' weekends in York

About me:

Inspired by the playing of Billy Cooper on the English Country Music LP, I bought my first hammered dulcimer in 1981.  At that time I was playing accordion, both in Lincolnshire ceilidh band Higgledy Piggledy (I was one of the original four), and as musician for Kesteven Women's Morris.  I'd started accordion in1961 and taught myself, having played piano since childhood.  Born and bred in Cheshire, I returned to the northwest in 1982.  By 1985 I'd become very involved in the traditional music of the region.  I was solo musician on HD for Saddleworth Clog and Garland Dancers for 10 years, and I've played northwest music on HD in the Rising Sun Band (Band of the Rising Sun) for 12 years.  More recently I've been playing HD in an occasional duo with Northumberland piper Adrian Schofield.  A chance meeting with Janette Hughes in1992 led to us getting the Nonsuch Dulcimer Club up and running - I've been Chairman ever since - I'm due for a rest soon!
