Midlands Meeting - Nov 21st 2004 at Dave & Jenny's
Mavis Parker
Obviously
the Neighbourhood Watchers around 4 Chelsea Drive are a bit lax as numerous
strangely shaped boxes were being carried in, by even stranger looking
characters (Some with beards, some clearly old enough to know better...) and
nobody called the cops!
There were pickers and pluckers, hummers and strummers and hammers and jammers, in fact there were 19 of us in all. 12 Make and Players, two Crockers and Steve from way down west, Len Kitching, Arwyn from Hinckley, and of course Jenny and Dave.
Sadie came in at the back door, Old Joe Clark was hanging around and poor old Jack unfortunately died somewhere near the end. Buttered Peas went down well with the Chilli and jackets, with quiche and cakes filling any spaces left. Jenny was really hot stuff with the kettle and did a neat bit of improvisation with the dishwasher.
Jenny and Dave got our brain cells working teaching us new tunes, poor Sadie got dragged slowly through the back door (Luckily the M&P's met again on Thursday, with Dave & Jenny and so could get poor Sadie to pull herself together).
Plenty of old favourites were played from Nonsuch to Soldier's Joy via a planxty or two. Fred, Arwyn and Len got us singing even if we didn't know the words, and Sally and Ann even managed to find space enough to dance.
The Crockers strutted their stuff Appalachian style, which I'm sure has inspired Hannah to do more practise!
A good time was had by all (Except for the cats who left home for the day...)
Thanks Jenny and Dave for opening your home to us all...See you next time
